I stayed at this house when I was painting for my first exhibition in Bethany. Eccles the cockatoo actually lived in a large cage. Recently arrived from England, I was astonished to hear his repertoire from behind a tree – “Hello Eccles,” “Puss, puss, puss”. He started the car, he was the dog, the lawnmower and always ended singing “Pop goes the weasel” with a shriek on the Pop.
